At Delfin Amazon Cruises, every voyage is more than a journey along the river — it is an invitation to experience the Amazon as a living tapestry, where nature and culture are inseparably interwoven. Guided by our philosophy, Woven by Nature, Crafted for You, we extend this vision beyond the decks of our vessels and into the heart of the communities and ecosystems that have welcomed us for nearly two decades.
A Living Conservation Corridor
We are proud to announce the launch of BioRest: Biocultural Restoration, a lifelong program led by biologist Gabriela Orihuela.
Rooted in scientific rigor and cultural respect, BioRest blends Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) with ecological restoration using native species — a partnership between ancestral wisdom and modern science.
More than a reforestation initiative, BioRest is a movement of continuity and renewal. Working across three Indigenous communities — San Francisco, Amazonas, and Puerto Prado — the program is creating a restoration corridor designed to recover species of food, medicinal, artisanal, and conservation value. These forests also nurture critical habitats for the pygmy marmoset (Cebuella niveiventris), the world’s smallest monkey.
Recently, the first 1,700 native plants were distributed across the participating communities, representing 17 species across four categories of use — food, medicine, handicrafts, and conservation. Each sapling planted is both an ecological act and a symbolic gesture: a story of regeneration, resilience, and respect for the Amazon as a shared home.
Ancestral Wisdom at the Core
What makes BioRest distinctive is its foundation in ancestral knowledge.
The species chosen for restoration are guided by the wisdom of community elders — plants that heal, trees that nourish, hardwoods that embody cultural memory. Among them, the leche huayo tree holds a special significance: once abundant, now being lovingly reintroduced after a 70-year-old elder dreamed of its return.
Rather than relying on monocultures, BioRest focuses on sustainable agroforestry systems that foster biodiversity, strengthen food security, and preserve cultural heritage. The forest is restored not merely as landscape, but as a living archive of identity, connecting present generations to those yet to come.
Partnerships Rooted in Trust
BioRest was made possible through participatory agreements with the Apus (community leaders) of San Francisco, Amazonas, and Puerto Prado.
This collaboration reflects Delfin’s conviction that conservation must never be imposed — it must be co-created.
Together, we are weaving a future where restoration embraces ecological health, cultural continuity, and human dignity.
A Legacy of Care
For Delfin, BioRest is both a response and a reaffirmation — our answer to the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, and a reflection of the values that have guided us since our founding: authenticity, sustainability, and connection.
The Amazon is not a destination to be visited; it is a home to be honored. We continue to walk alongside the true guardians of this forest — those whose stories, songs, and hands keep it alive.
Just as every Delfin journey is Woven by Nature, Crafted for You, so too is BioRest:
a collective act of care, artistry, and responsibility — crafted with the wisdom of communities, the resilience of the forest, and the shared commitment to a thriving Amazon.
